For employers

Train your team. We handle the paperwork.

Mechanist delivers workplace-based automotive training directly to your staff — at your premises, on your schedule. You stay focused on running your workshop. We handle training plans, assessments, compliance and reporting.

Why automotive businesses choose Mechanist

We've been training automotive trade workers in Australian workplaces for decades. Here's what that means for you.

Training at your premises

Your apprentices and trainees never leave your workshop for training. Mechanist trainers come to you — no lost productivity, no block release weeks.

We manage the compliance

Training plans, training contracts, evidence collection, AVETMISS reporting, government claims — Mechanist handles all of it. You sign where required. That's it.

Reduce your training costs

Apprenticeship and traineeship training is government subsidised. In many cases employer incentives also apply. Mechanist will confirm what's available before you commit.

Automotive-specific trainers

Every Mechanist trainer has real trade experience. They understand your workshop, your vehicles, and your business. This isn't generic VET delivered by generalists.

Progress you can see

You receive regular updates on your apprentice's or trainee's progress. Supervisor sign-off is handled in a single visit — no app downloads, no ongoing portal logins required.

SA, QLD and NSW

Mechanist is a Skills Assure Supplier in Queensland and operates under funding arrangements in South Australia and New South Wales. Multi-state businesses can work with one training provider.

What does the employer need to do?

Not much. Here's the honest summary of employer responsibilities under a Mechanist apprenticeship or traineeship.

1
Sign the training contract

A registered training contract is signed by you, the apprentice/trainee, and Mechanist (or lodged with the state government authority where required).

2
Provide a safe, suitable workplace

Your workshop needs to be a real working environment where the relevant trade is performed. Mechanist will confirm suitability before the contract is lodged.

3
Nominate a supervisor

An experienced qualified person in your team is nominated to supervise the apprentice's or trainee's day-to-day work. This person will periodically confirm skill development to Mechanist's trainer.

4
Sign off on third-party reports

When the Mechanist trainer visits and is satisfied with progress, the supervisor signs a third-party report confirming the apprentice's competency for that cluster of skills. Done in one sitting, on-site — no app, no portal.

5
Pay the award wage

Apprentices and trainees are employees. Applicable award rates apply. Employer incentive payments from the government may offset part of your wage costs — Mechanist can advise on what's available.
