The User Choice program provides public funding for the delivery of accredited, entry-level training to apprentices and trainees. The program works in conjunction with the Commonwealth Australian Apprenticeships System, under which apprentices and trainees (also known in some jurisdictions as “Australian Apprentices”) enter into legally binding training contracts with their employers and receive structured training to achieve a nationally recognised qualification.

The Queensland User Choice program enables apprentices, trainees and their employers to select a preferred Registered Training Organisation (RTO) from a list of Pre-qualified Suppliers for the delivery of accredited training to meet their specific needs.

Mechanist is a pre-qualified supplier under the User Choice program. We can currently access User Choice funding for the following qualifications:

FEES payable under USER CHOICE Program

In addition to the course fees, Employers/Apprentices are required to pay a tuition fee with the level being set within the User Choice contract. These fees are currently $1.60 per nominal hour for non concession and concession students at $0.64 per nominal hour. Nominal hours are pre-defined study loads for each Unit of Competency within a qualification or accredited course.

Am I eligible for a funded place in the USER CHOICE Program?

To be eligible for a government contribution towards the costs of training, an apprentice or trainee must have entered into a training contract for a qualification that is funded by DESBT and be registered in DESBT’s registration system.
